Concord has acquired Mothership Music Publishing, the independent publisher founded in 2013, in a deal announced on April 27, 2026. The purchase brings more than 5,000 copyrights into Concord's publishing business. Financial terms were not disclosed.
What changes hands
This is a company acquisition rather than a single-artist catalog deal. Concord takes over Mothership's publishing assets, including its catalog of over 5,000 songs, and its existing agreements with active songwriters continue under the new owner. Mothership was set up as a partnership between Brett Gurewitz, Lionel Conway, Doug Mark and Hein van der Ree. The two companies already knew each other well: Concord had been Mothership's sub-publishing partner outside the US, and the acquisition extends that relationship into full ownership. Mothership writers will now have access to Concord's global A&R, sync, marketing and licensing teams.
The catalog
Mothership's repertoire spans pop, indie pop, rock, alternative, indie folk, Latin and singer-songwriter music. Names on the roster include:
- The MarĂas: nominated for Best New Artist at the 2026 Grammys.
- Falling In Reverse and Architects: two heavyweights of modern rock and metal.
- Pam Sheyne: co-writer of Christina Aguilera's Genie in a Bottle.
- The Tallest Man On Earth, Andy Shauf, Son Little and The Menzingers: respected acts in indie folk, soul and punk.
Why it matters
Concord has been busy in 2026. The Mothership deal follows its acquisition of Ninja Tune in March and an investment in Giant Music in January, after it bought the Stem platform in 2025. The pattern shows a buyer that wants whole companies with living rosters, not only finished catalogs.
For independent publishers, this deal illustrates a common route to exit: an existing sub-publishing or administration partner often becomes the natural acquirer, because it already knows the royalty data and the writers. A roster that mixes steady catalog income with artists still building their careers, such as a recent Grammy nominee, can make a mid-sized publisher attractive to strategic buyers who can add sync and marketing muscle.
